This piece of music is based on a 5/4 drum rhythm. Subdivided 3+3+2+2, the flowing rhythm creates a feel that is both smooth and angular.

The drums were recorded in August of 2019. In early 2020 the track was sent to the Mayden's who added bass and vocals. Nathan added violin in July of 2020 and Martin added his array of middle Eastern instruments in August. It was all mixed by Tom Coyne and Dave Klien in September 2020.

"Cleansing" started life back in 1995 as a vocal/drum jam between Coyne and singer Terry Kennedy. It was performed once and then shelved. For this current version an entirely new section was added in the middle (subdivided 2+3+2+3+2+2+3+3). As each player added their parts the character of the song kept changing until we arrived where we are now.

This collaboration represents Coyne's association with the Pacific Northwest' "Steam Punk" scene. The Mayden's and Johnstone hail from Seattle WA. Over the years Coyne has played with the three of them as a member of "The Nathaniel Johnstone Band" at Steam Punk themed events. Martin is based in the San Francisco Bay area (via Buenos Aires) were he plays in "The Vernian Process".
